In the last few years energy efficient building and remodeling has become a huge focus for builders in cold climates like what we have in Alaska.  We are fortunate that Alaska is leading the transformation from the "old way of building" into the future of high efficient building.   Dave Northup has been at the forefront of new efficient building techniques and has been incorporating energy efficient practices into every aspect of our work; which benefits our clients through better built projects and lower energy bills.

There has been much said about Green building and other environmentally sustainable building practices in the last few years.  Everywhere one looks they are inundated with green products and green building techniques.  Instead of falling into the hype of vanity green building, we focus our efforts on the best energy efficient practices available and use the most sustainable materials suited of our climate and environment.  While we support building in the most sustainable manner possible; we never lose focus on building a safe and efficient project that focuses on our client's vision.

Northup Construction has been doing weatherization projects since the inception of the recent Energy Rebate Program; which is administered by the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation.  We have successfully helped homeowners obtain the highest ratings possible through the most cost effective means.  Northup Construction works hand in hand with Energy Auditors in making Alaskan homes more efficient and safe.

Aside from the State of Alaska Rebate programs, the Federal Government has also enacted some Tax Rebates for Energy Efficiency through the Energy Star program.  There are several opportunities to receive rebates and tax credits from both agencies as the programs over lap.  I have found the best online explanation of the Federal program in an article done in Remodeling Magazine.

For example, on a recent project we were able to upgrade the standard double pane windows recommended by the State of Alaska's program to triple pane windows which are usually required to meet the Federal tax credit threshold.  Despite the added cost of the triple pane windows, the client essentially got a much better preforming window for the same cost as a standard double pane window.

While we are not accountants, Northup Construction will do everything possible to help our clients apply for and receive these rebates.  We will help in the documentation and proofs of purchase that are required for these programs.  Make certain to read the fine print and speak with your accountant to get a complete understanding of your eligibility for these Federal tax credits.

From sealing leaky doors to complete energy retrofits; Northup Construction is well versed in building a more energy efficient project for our customers.
